NSW DRUG ALERT: 'Heroin' found to contain a potent opioid ('nitazene’)
NSW Health reports that there have been increased hospitalisations and ICU admissions from people using 'heroin' across the Central Coast region. Testing of the 'heroin' found it contained a potent opioid ('nitazene’).
National recall of some poppy seed products linked to poisoning. Reports of unusual and severe symptoms following poppy seed consumption have now seen at least 12 people requiring medical attention in NSW after developing poisoning soon after ingestion, with additional cases Australia-wide.
Public Drug Alert: fentanyl-like substances have been found in fake alprazolam (Kalma). These substances cannot be detected with fentanyl test strips.
NSW Health has issued a warning following reports of ongoing detections and harms from fake #alprazolam (a benzodiazepine). The tablets have variable appearance and can look like a variety of local or overseas alprazolam 2mg, such as Kalma, Xanax, Mylan, Sandoz. Products not purchased at pharmacies are at high risk of being counterfeit.
NSW Health reports that severe overdoses involving heroin have been seen in the Hunter Region and lower Mid North Coast. There is evidence flualprazolam may have been sold as heroin or has been mixed with heroin.
